Mia Talks!
Post-fight Talk with Mia St. John

How would you rate your performance tonight against Mohs?
I think I did pretty good because I’m a counter puncher and I like for them to come in and my sister was telling me not to buy into what the audience was shouting. I got kind of nervous at first because I could hear the audience starting to shout “Fight, Fight”.

My sister was telling me, “ let her show you what she has first then you go after her, not the other way around.” Sometimes I get caught in when the fighter doesn’t do anything like in this case. I had to initiate most of the contact. So I was just patient and I was going to let her show me what she had and I was going to counter, and in this case it worked every single time.

Did you take a couple of the first few rounds to get a feel on her and how she was going to come out?
Yes, I do that most of the time, because I would rather be safe then sorry, so that is why I wasn’t as active in the earlier rounds. If I just rush on in for the first round I don’t what to expect. You have to understand, for some of these girls there is not a lot of film footage because they don’t fight on TV or anything. Where as for me I’m on TV all the time so they have plenty of film on me.

Did your corner say anything to you after the second round because that’s when it appeared that you started to fill more comfortable in the ring?
Well, that is when I loosen up, in the first round I’m just warming up and getting into rhythm. The second round on; I start to do my thing. I love to move in the ring because I like moving my feet, using angles so that way they never know where the punches are going to come from.

Did you think that she had a good chin because she took some good shot and then just keep coming forward?
I think that she is a good fighter; she is highly regarded in the women’s boxing world. So I knew that she was going to stay in there and battle it out. So I knew at that point I had to out point her because she is a very strong girl.

Is there any talk about fighting Lucia Ricker?
We are trying to put that together right now and its kind of difficult because she is the type of fighter who thinks about the opponents she fights for a long time, she wont rush into anything. Hopefully that comes through and if it doesn’t I’m going to just rematch Christy Martin. I want to keep my career going then retire.

If there was a women’s pound for pound ranking, where do you see yourself?
I see myself as one of the best fighters out there.

Is there any talk about retirement with you in the future?
Well, right now I’m are working on a few things and if they hit off maybe then can I start thinking about retirement, but as for right now this is my bread and butter so no plans at this time. I’m 35 and I feel good and I’m not going anywhere until I’m ready.
